Speedy
Speedy is still…well..speedy. It’s not that he’s this lightening fast kid or anything, but he loves to move. He finds running FUN. That’s a rare personality trait.
“So I’m changing the nicknames on the blog. What do you think yours should be?” I asked him as we pulled away from his morning weights session at the high school.
“Jim,” he deadpanned.
“Seriously,” I chuckled. “I’m not calling you Jim. What do you really think?”
He grinned, “Okay, seriously. Lionel Messi.”
“I can’t call you Lionel Messi!”
“Why not?” He flashed me a huge grin, full of braces with pink elastics around them.
“There’s already one very famous Lionel Messi. It would be confusing! So give me a straight answer,” I sighed.
Straight answers from this kid are hard to come by. When I asked him how many kids were at weights today he said, “four thousand”. That’s pretty much our entire town population.
I asked Speedy/Jim/Lionel why he never gives me a straight answer he said, “Straight answers are boring. You ask me boring questions so I spice them up with fun answers!” Again, he flashed me that shiny metal grin, his dimple twinkling with charm.
He gets his teasing personality from my side of the family. Just ask my dad…or don’t…he may not give you a straight answer. (ah-hem)
The fact that he “feels the need…the need for speed” and he’s a jokester made me think of Goose from Top Gun.
Remember the scene where Goose plays the piano and sings “Great Balls of Fire”? I can see my son doing that.
Now I just need to go tell Speedy Goose he is forbidden from ever driving a motorcycle or flying an airplane.
